Ms Rebecca Sharibu, the mother of Leah Sharibu, the Dapchi school-girl in Boko Haram captivity, has reported arrived London to meet the British prime minister, Boris Johnson.

The Nation reports that Ms Sharibu told BBC Hausa in London on Thursday, February 27, that she was meeting the British prime minister to solicit for his assistance in securing the release of her daughter.

The newspaper reports that she berated the federal government over its handling of the efforts to release Leah.

According to Ms Sharibu, President Muhammadu Buhari only reached out to the family seven months after Leah’s abduction.

She said the president’s promise to rescue Leah, which was also reiterated by his ministers when they visited the family, has not been fulfilled.

Ms Sharibu said the failure of the Nigerian government to secure her child’s release made her resort to visiting London to seek the British government’s assistance.

She was quoted to have said in Hausa: “My major worry now, is for the government to do whatever possible and free my daughter from captivity. Because, I am seriously disturbed, but there is nothing I can do. If the government is doing nothing, what can I an ordinary citizen do?”

Ms Sharibu said she was assisted to visit London by Leah Foundation, a non-governmental organization established in honour of her daughter

She commended the organisation which she said has been of help to her family.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Leah allegedly gave birth to a baby boy. An anonymous source said the young lady put to bed in the early hours of Saturday, January 25.

Leah who was 14 years old when she was kidnapped in 2018 has been held hostage by the insurgents for allegedly refusing to renounce her Christian faith when her colleagues were released.

Leah was reportedly married off to a top Boko Haram commander who lives outside the country. She gave birth in Niger Republic.

The source claimed that it was Leah’s pregnancy that stopped the terrorists from releasing her a few months ago.
