Lagos, Nigeria – By Augustine Osamuyimen Okunmwendia
It was a two day event with high impact on leadership empowerment at the just concluded Excellence in Leadership Conference(ELC) organized by the Daystar Christian Center.
The two-day conference which started on Thursday, November 2nd, 2017 ended today, Friday November 3rd, 2017 at Plot A3C Ikosi Road, Oregun, Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria.
The conference theme, “Empower”, exposed leadership secrets, and empowers participants for the New Nigeria.
In an interview by Corruption-Free Press, the Host Pastor, Rev. Sam Adeyemi said the present Nigeria has a leadership problem and it will only take Leaders with capacity to change the equation. “Nigeria is presently dealing with a cultural issue”, and the New Nigeria needs to deal with that.
He also made it known that the purpose of this year’s conference was to inform the world that there are new breeds of leaders emanating from Nigeria and the Excellence in Leadership Conference is the platform for empowering them with the skills needed for leadership.
“Leadership can be learned and that’s why we run a leadership school in Nigeria. We need more of this leadership school” – Sam Adeyemi
Speaking from a leadership perspective, Rev. Sam Adeyemi said Nigeria is a bundle of opportunity and not a problem.
The Host Pastor also gave Corruption-Free Press correspondent an Idea of what the New Nigeria would be.
“The New Nigeria is a Nigeria with beautiful cities that works, where all power generating sets becomes useless because of constant power supply”.
“I see a New Nigeria where our police are dignified from inside-out, decent uniforms and befitting cars”.
“I see the land use decree taking out, I see good roads, I see the average Nigerian having access to mortgage loan at a very low interest rate”.
With passion, the Host Pastor told Corruption-Free Press correspondent why the present Nigeria is not working.
“In developed countries around us, the power of the ruling class have been curtailed. For example, the US is a country were citizens have power over the US, that’s why their democracy is so strong and powerful. The present Nigeria’s problem is that the ruling class is consuming most of our resources”.
The Host Pastor also explained why roads and other important projects are lacking executions in the present Nigeria.
“Our roads are not constructed not because there is no money, it’s because majority of the budgeted money goes to the pockets of the ruling class, so they succeed in limiting the power of the citizens to make money”.
He further gave a way out for the New Nigeria to emerge by saying that “The Federal Government should only spend tax money, because tax is only a fraction of the citizens income. So if this is the structure, as long as the citizens are broke then the Government will be broke. This means the Government would have to do everything possible to make the citizens prosper and succeed in their businesses, so Government can have money to spend from their taxes”.
As a matter of fact, “the present Nigeria does not need the citizens money, that’s why the Government can afford to allow citizens go on strike for days and they would not be affected, Because as long as the oil blocks are pumping oil, the ruling class will continue to have money to spend,” He said.
We cannot wait too long for leaders who are compassionate, it is not those in Abuja or Government houses that would change Nigeria, Nigerians have to decide to control the ruling class.
The New Nigeria is a Nigeria without prejudice, ethnicity, and as 2019 approaches we need to beware of generals without scars.
“We might have little to do about 2019 now because it’s seems already fix, but we can plan towards 2023, 2027, 2031” he said.
